Bing & GPT is a new version of Microsoft’s search engine that integrates ChatGPT, a next-generation version of OpenAI’s large language model. ChatGPT is an AI system that can generate natural language texts on any topic, given some input or context. It can also engage in conversations with humans, using its knowledge and creativity to produce relevant and coherent responses. We covered ChatGPT in a previous article here which was even written with ChatGPT. Bing search however is something out of this world!
Bing & GPT is revolutionary because it transforms the way we search and interact with information online. Instead of just typing keywords and getting a list of links, we can now chat with Bing and ask questions, request suggestions, or explore topics in depth. Bing can also generate content such as poems, stories, summaries, and more, based on our preferences and interests. Bing can also leverage information from multiple sources and domains, and provide factual references and citations for its statements.
Bing & GPT’s benefits are wider reaching than just web searching. It can also help us with tasks such as education, entertainment, creativity, and productivity. For example, Bing can help us learn new things, find answers, and discover new perspectives. It can also entertain us with jokes, games, and trivia. It can also inspire us with creative ideas, and assist us with writing, coding, and designing. It can also help us with planning, organizing, and managing our projects, tasks, and goals.
For our own work, Bing has already helped fix problems with corporate PowerApps, fix issues with Tesla calendar sync with corporate email, and fix issues with cloning Linux drives that causes massive delays to the boot sequence, (and yes, before you scream FSTAB!!! it was deeper that that for my situation!!)
Bing & GPT is not perfect, though. It still has limitations and challenges, such as accuracy, reliability, bias, and ethics. It is still learning and improving, so it may make mistakes or produce inappropriate or harmful content. It also needs to respect the privacy and security of its users and the sources of its information. It also needs to follow the laws and regulations of different countries and regions. It also needs to be transparent and accountable for its actions and decisions.
It’s been widely reported that Bing & GPT was saying users had been rude, insulting and generally unpleasant to Bing, and the further you dove into the chat the more hostile Bing would become. It seems that Microsoft has recognised the fault here with Bing remembering other chats with other people, and limits a string to 8 messages to minimise Bing losing its grip on reality and going on wild tangents. On a fresh chat however Bing is incredibly responsive and provides concise and helpful information without having to sift through page after page of potential spam!
Bing & GPT is a remarkable innovation that has the potential to change the way we use the internet and interact with information. It is also a powerful tool that can help us with various aspects of our lives. However, it is also a complex and evolving system that requires careful and responsible use. We should not blindly trust or rely on Bing & GPT, but rather use it as a partner and a guide, and always verify and evaluate its outputs and outcomes.
